Overview
A desiccant pack absorbs the residual moisture that slowly seeps into a sealed jar. Even properly dried mushrooms can reabsorb humidity and mould if they are stored without one. Colour-indicating silica gel turns pink when saturated, giving you a clear signal to recharge or replace the sachet.
Primary stage: Processing
Where it fits in the grow
Placed in storage jars after drying to maintain low moisture.
Safety & handling
Use food-safe silica gel in sealed sachets only, and keep loose beads away from children and pets — the beads are a choking and ingestion hazard.
Practical advice
Weigh a jar over the first two weeks of storage. A slow gain means moisture is still escaping from the mushrooms and the dry was not complete.
